Madeleine Dwyer known to friends and family as “Maddi” passed away on June 29, 2017 at the age of 74 years.
A resident of Centereach, NY, Maddi received her undergraduate degree from Adelphi University in Education, and a Graduate degree from Stony Brook University in Liberal Arts.
For more than thirty years, Maddi was a dedicated educator in the Brentwood Unified School District serving as a teacher at North Elementary School, as the district-wide drug education leader, and as First Vice President and Executive Council Member, Brentwood Teachers Association, New York State United Teachers.
Maddi will always be remembered for her sharp mind and as a savvy negotiator, a skill she learned at the knee of her father Al Lazarow. Her mind and skills were at the ready and available for the people and issues she cared about. An avid reader, Maddi lived surrounded by books, magazines, newspapers – anything in print — to feed her lively intellect.
The summation of Maddi’s life is ultimately about family. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tom Dwyer, and two children: Scott Dwyer, of Babylon, NY; and Lynn Dwyer of Patchogue, NY. She is also survived by two grandchildren, her sister Helga Lazarow, her brother Richard Lazarow, her sister-in-law Ellen and two well-loved nieces and a nephew, her mother Regina Lazarow and dozens of cousins across the United States. Maddi is predeceased by her beloved father Al Lazarow and her brother Marty Lazarow. Maddi would also want her dog Bodie listed among her survivors who will miss her very much.
