In Memory: Leanne Marie Smith

October 17, 1977- December 3, 2021

Leanne was born to Diane and the late Fred Smith in Dallas, Texas. She was the beloved sister of Kelly Smith of Port Jefferson. She moved to New York with her family in 1992 to be closer to her extended family, but never completely lost her connection and love for Texas. She enjoyed returning to Dallas to visit friends each year. Leanne graduated from Miller Place High School in 1996. She worked as a medical assistant at MDCS Dermatology in Smithtown.

Leanne valued her family and friends. She is fondly remembered by her many uncles, aunts and cousins. She was always an important part of family gatherings, greeting us with her wonderful, warm smile and welcoming words. She was particularly close to her sister, Kelly, who remembers her as a supportive, protective big sister. Leanne and her mother, Diane; late-father, Fred; and Kelly, could often be found together at home, on vacations, at family events, or just out shopping enjoying each others’ company. There has always been a very strong bond between them that was the building block on which Leanne formed so many long-lasting friendships throughout her lifetime.

Leanne was also surrounded by her many friends who recall her and her giving, compassionate, loving, and thoughtful personality. It is difficult for those of us lucky enough to have had her in our lives to accept that such a vivacious soul is gone. As active as Leanne was, she would take time to give a non-judgmental, listening ear or friendly advice to those who sought her out.

Leanne also had many interests. She enjoyed reading a wide-variety of genres, Harry Potter stories and romance novels come to mind. She loved to crochet, and make blankets, giving them away to close friends and family as gifts. In keeping with her personality, she was at her best entertaining and spending time with others. Not only did she work hard at preserving the recipes her parents taught her, but she also created some of her own. The holiday cookies and confections she made with her family were a mainstay of any family holiday celebration.

Her mother, Diane, adds that the Amazon driver, who can be found so often in the neighborhood, will undoubtedly have to go to a half-time position with her passing! Leanne did love to shop!

The family would like to thank all her friends, coworkers and neighbors for the love and support they have given to us in this most-trying time. Leanne may be gone, but the love and respect we have for all of you will last. Please keep in touch.

Death has not stopped Leanne from giving life to others. She donated her organs to those in need. The family takes great consolation in knowing that her death is not final. She will live on in others unknown as she lives on in us in spirit. Leanne has done so many wonderful things for all those who knew her. Please keep the gift of her many kindnesses going forward by helping others in a moment of need.

We are also comforted knowing Leanne will be put to rest with her maternal grandparents. May they share an eternity of peace.

Will you think of me and smile?

Will you reflect on the things I have done and laugh?

Will you remember the sound of my voice, finding joy?

Always remember the love and warmth in my heart,

for now they are yours.
