On Saturday, February 27, 2021, Dr. Kirpal Singh Sandhu, loving husband and father of four,
passed away at the age of 82.
Born October 6, 1939 in the holy city of Amritsar, the son of Harbans Kaur and Dr. Katar SinghSandhu. As a young boy Kirpal was bright, inquisitive, loved animals – especially his dog Moti,
enjoyed flying kites, playing with the local kids, and going to the cinema. Many hot summer nights he would sleep on the roof with his family, and gaze at the stars.
Kirpal excelled in academics and sports. He starred in field hockey at Amritsar Medical College, where he became a leader among his classmates. His love of nature, humanity and his vision to
travel the world took root and guided him to earning his Medical Doctorate.
On August 2, 1970 Kirpal married the love of his life Rupindar Kaur Rhandawa and they began a life of travel and medicine together. Kirpal and Rupi started their family, with the birth of eldest
daughter Dr. Madhupal Kaur Sandhu, and soon after son Dr. Prabhpal Singh Sandhu. From Malaysia, to Brunei, to the Philippines, Hong Kong, and New York, where Kirpal became a
board certified Anesthesiologist and they welcomed daughter Amrita Kaur Sandhu. After settling down in Sea Cliff, their youngest son Dr. Teghpal Singh Sandhu was born.
Dr. Kirpal Singh Sandhu worked at Glen Cove and South Hampton Hospitals, and touched the lives of many people. He raised a loving family, instilled virtues of the love of nature, fishing,
boating, valued life, he honored education and tradition. Kirpal retired from medicine in 2010 when duty to his parents brought him back to Punjab to practice farming.
Kirpal was a man of great strength, dignity, genuine kindness, and care. He was a pioneer in the Indian community, and led a life full of accomplishment. His will to live gave him the strength to
fight against cancer til the end. He will live on in the hearts and memories of all those he touched.
