After months of proactive rehabilitation following his October motorcycle accident, Kevin McCaffrey, aged 45 of Oakdale, NY succumbed to his traumatic and intense injuries on February 23, 2023. He died peacefully in his sleep and immediately was lifted to heaven.
Kevin grew up in Holbrook and Bayport, graduating from Bayport-Blue Point High School in 1995. He was a sports enthusiast and a die-hard Yankees fan. From a young age, he was naturally athletic. He had no fears when it came to roller-skating, skateboarding, biking or WWF wrestling. He played soccer, street hockey, deck hockey, basketball, football, whiffle ball and shoes. He thrived on the camaraderie and physical work.
As a young adult, he worked in the bar/restaurant business. Slinging drinks at the Dublins, West Sayville Golf Club, the Dog & Duck, the Oar House, Tiki & Irish Exit, he used his gift of gab more often than not. He was known to talk the ears of a brass monkey at times.
In 2013, he proudly joined the Laborers’ Union Local 731. His no fear and physical hard work background gave way for him to work jobs from the heights of the Brooklyn Bridge to the tunnels under the towers. It was here were he found his love of working with heat: welding.
In more recent years, he left Local 731 and pursued welding. He spent these passed two years working endless hours to start his own mobile welding business with his golden arm. Regardless if the job was at the top of the building or the sewers below, he was a highly skilled welder and loved the craft. No matter the location, he always had the ability to appreciate his surroundings and the people around him. And everyone loved him.
Kevin is survived by daughter, Ashlyn; parents, Kathryn (Gustafson) McCaffrey and Edward & Carol McCaffrey; Aunt, Joyce McCaffrey; siblings Karyn (McCaffrey) & Anthony Landolfi, Gerry Gierloff, Kevin & Kathy Gierloff, Lorri Burmester, Ron & Beth Burmester; extended families Hennigans, Pitficks, Faircloths, Homers, and Gibneys. He was a friend to everyone he met and will be missed greatly.
We will share our memories and celebrate his life on Saturday March 11 1pm – 5pm at Maloney’s Lake Funeral Home 132 Ronkonkoma Avenue, Lake Ronkonkoma.
