Kenneth J. Regensburg

d. October 12, 2022

On the morning of October 12, 2022, Kenneth Joseph Regensburg, 90 of Oakdale NY passed away peacefully. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jacqueline. They adored and raised their 5 children, Kathryn Cast (George)-both deceased of Myrtle Beach SC, Kenneth Regensburg (Luann) of Oakdale NY, Patricia Tobin (Robert) of Chesapeake VA, Michael Regensburg-deceased- (JoAnne) of Ridge NY, & Barbara Jean Makinen (Shawn) of Oakdale NY. He leaves behind his legacy as a proud “Popi” of his beloved grandchildren Kevin, Erin, Timothy, Meghan, Dennis, Christine, Caitlyn, Bryan, Liam (deceased), Colin and his ever-growing & cherished 20 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way!
Kenny was born in NYC and grew up in Queens, NY. His mother’s family was from County Waterford and his paternal grandmother and family came to the US from Dublin, Ireland.
Kenny graduated from St. Ann’s Academy in Manhattan. Kenny was also a graduate of The Academy of Aeronautics in Flushing, with a Certificate in Aircraft Design. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from the University of the State of NY.
Kenny enlisted in the Navy at the onset of the Korean War and served for four years before his honorable discharge as a Petty Officer, Second Class. He then worked 10 years with Lockhead Aircraft Service at Kennedy Airport before joining the Suffolk County Police Department in 1965. Kenny proudly worked his way through the ranks at SCPD retiring as Inspector with over 29 years of dedicated service.
Kenny was also well known in the Irish American community where he served as a President of the Suffolk County Police Officers Emerald Society and served as a member of his local Ancient Order of Hibernians. Kenny enjoyed playing for both societies’ pipe bands where he shared his love for bagpipes with family and friends alike, often displaying his talents at countless events and making his Grandchildren’s birthdays truly unforgettable.
When Kenny wasn’t serving his community, you could find him spending time with his family and traveling with his beloved wife Jackie. A true Patriarch of his family, he leaves behind a family that adored him, a life full of love and lasting memories to carry on and honor him. In 90 years, he truly left his mark on this world, and will be missed so dearly by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers…. Please consider donating or volunteering for one of two programs made in Kenny’s late Grandson Liam’s honor: “Beats For Liam-Teen Cardiac Screening”- all donations directly support a local Teen Cardiac Screening Event, and also sponsors and allows less-fortunate children who dream to attend Scout Camp become a reality. Donations can be made via Venmo to @BeatsforLiam-Regensburg, or by contacting Luann Regensburg via email at [email protected] .
