Kenneth D. Tuohy

Beloved brother, son, loyal friend and trusted neighbor, Kenneth passed peacefully May 9, 2023 while taking a nap in his room at Woodhaven Home for Adults in Port Jefferson Station, where he had lived for many years.
Kenneth was born in John T. Mather Memorial Hospital January 15, 1960. He graduated from Comsewogue High School in 1979 before serving 4 years in the US Air Force, and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook in 1989. Kenneth had long wanted to be involved in education and began substitute teaching after his graduation from Stony Brook.
Around this time, Kenneth began experiencing catastrophic mental health issues, which took him from his family and community for many, many years.
Then, around 2011, with the help of his brother, Kenneth found his way into treatment and assisted living. With accessible medical care, stable housing, regular meals, and a supportive community, Kenneth experienced a renaissance–he had a burst of creative writing and produced numerous short stories and outlines for movies. He became an avid collector of coins, stamps, and baseball cards and was a shrewd businessman–always finding a way to make a few extra dollars.
Kenneth was known for his steady presence, his empathy and generosity. He endured tremendous challenges in his lifetime but never lost his compassion for others. His passing will be deeply felt.
Kenneth is survived by his older sister Patricia Tuohy, his younger brother Michael Tuohy, his sister-in-law Stacy Tuohy, and his nephew Jake Tuohy and his niece Julia Tuohy.
