A simple, humble, and devout man, Jyotindra Kantilal Mehta passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021. Born on November 2, 1940, in Karachi, Pakistan, at the age of six he fled Pakistan during the partition of India by the British. He later moved to Nigeria before emigrating to America after a military coup. Handsome and serene, he had dimples and a smile that would light up a room.
Jyotindra is survived by his wife Jyostna, daughter Sonal Ajmera, son Parag Mehta, son Ketan Mehta, grandson Akhil Ajmera, granddaughter Deesha Ajmera, grandson Mason Mehta, brother Bipin Mehta, sister Sudha Lakhani and sister Pragna Doshi.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Kantilal Mehta and Kamlaben Mehta and brothers Navnit Mehta, Kriti Mehta and Pravin Mehta.
Calm and caring, he had an incredibly patient demeanor. He was perpetually social and thoroughly enjoyed the company of friends and family, with whom he was always generous.
Jyotindra was deeply proud of the success of his three children: his daughter, who’s dedicated to nonprofit work; his younger son, an investment banker; and his older son, an entrepreneur. He also loved spending time with his three grandchildren.
With an adventurous spirit, traveling was a passion, especially to India, Africa, Europe and Asia. A family trip to Paris and Geneva held special memories for him and his children — as did summers spent together in Nigeria.
Jyotindra could often be found playing cards, particularly gin rummy. He had an appetite for delicious cuisine — his wife’s cooking being his favorite.
Always content, Jyotindra went with the flow, accepting what life had to offer in a gracious and grateful way. Never one to complain, he led a simple life — always ready to lend a hand to someone in need.Among his proudest accomplishments were settling his family in the United States and working tirelessly until the age of 77.
Pious and religious, he had a lifelong devotion to his spiritual journey. He spent his retired life in religious activity and he was a follower of Rashtrasant Param Gurudev Shree Namramuni Maharaj Saheb. His calm presence and gentle spirit will be missed by all those who knew him.
