Celebrating the life of Josephine V. Hauk of Hauppauge, NY, who passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024. With her parents Victoria and Charles Felice, she enjoyed her childhood in both New York and Michigan. Josephine attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help school in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. They later moved back to Astoria and Elmhurst, New York where she graduated from Julia Richmond High School in June 1955.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Hauk, whom she had married in 1960. Josephine and Joe moved to Hauppauge where they found a home to raise their children and welcome grandchildren. She was the mother to Debra, Donna, Joseph, and Steven. Josephine was a devoted grandmother to Michael, Matthew, Ben, Alex, Emily, Thomas, Brandon, and Sarah; and a proud great-grandmother to Vera. Josephine cherished family gatherings with her large extended family and looked forward to seeing them for occasions big and small.
As a person of deep faith, she regularly attended daily mass with a close-knit group of friends at St. Thomas More in Hauppauge. There, she also served as a member of the Altar Guild and the Columbiettes. She also helped with church mailings, the food pantry, and the giving tree.
She also found fulfillment in her work both as a medical underwriter and then years later within the Hauppauge School District, where she had worked for many years. Before retiring from her school position, she enjoyed working with coworkers, students, teachers, and administration and valued the longtime friendships she made there.
In her free time, Josephine loved to garden and was an active member of the Honey Hills Garden Club in Hauppauge. She and her friends from the Garden Club took care of the Hauppauge Veterans Honor Roll flower bed. They also regularly decorated the rooms at the Vanderbilt Mansion in Northport and the house on the grounds of Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River.
Josephine’s dedication to her church, family, friends, work, and others reflects her generous spirit. Her legacy of faith, love, and togetherness will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
