He is survived by his wife Frances G. “Gerry” (née Kruger), daughters Diane Toth, Marlene Schneider, Jacqueline Reed, son-in-law Christopher Reed, and grandchildren Allison and Steven Schneider. He was predeceased by his son Gary and son-in-law Scot Schneider. Joe, son of Stephen Toth and Anna (Emilie Johanna) Maurer, was born in Glendale, NY on Valentine Street and lived his childhood years in Ridgewood, NY on Madison and Woodbine Streets. He played stickball and street hockey during his youth, and was a baseball pitcher in New York City amateur league in his teens. Joe faced Whitey Ford in a 1-0 pitching duel, unfortunately on the losing side of the game. He also tried out for the baseball NY Giants, but was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War 1950-1952. After returning from the war, Joe and Gerry were married and moved to Centereach in 1958, where they raised their family. He worked for Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp. He was an active member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, serving as usher, lector, Holy Name Society Member, baptismal counselor, and organizer & coach for Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) baseball and basketball. In his later years, he enjoyed travel with his wife on many European river boat cruises and jaunts to Atlantic City. He also bowled in multiple leagues at Centereach and Port Jefferson lanes, and was an avid NY Mets, Rangers, and Giants fan. Joe was a true gentleman, and his quiet sincere nature will be dearly missed by his extended family and many friends.
