Joseph John Eugene Hawkins, 83 of Syosset New York passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024.
Born December 25, 1940 in Brooklyn New York preceded in death by his loving parents, John Hawkins and Eleanor Roach.
Joseph is survived by his 5 children; Kathleen (Joseph) Rigert, Maureen (Robert) Young, John (Linda) Hawkins, Kelliann (Robert) Weingartner and Dean (Kristen) Hawkins.
His 14 Grandchildren- Joseph (Alice), Jessica (Johnny), Kaitlyn, Brianna (Justin), Krystyn, Shannon (Katelyn), Lauren (Richie), Karley, Gabriella (Frank), Travis John, Dean, Nicholas, Christopher and Jack.
Blessed with 5 Great Grandchildren – Finely, Quinn, Lilah, Leila and Elijah.
Joseph was an only child and this was his legacy. He was so very proud of each and every one of them.
He was a resident of North Babylon, New York for many years and currently resided in Syosset, New York. He was employed by Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust Bank in Manhattan and Hicksville, New York. He later attended the NYIT Culinary Art Center to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a chef.
In his younger years he was a talented baseball player. His love of sports didn’t end there, he was a NY Ranger, Yankee and Jet fan.
Ice Hockey consumed much of his life. He coached youth hockey and was involved in developing & coaching the very first North Babylon hockey team.
Beyond sports he loved to cook. He loved music and was artistically gifted. He has the opportunity to travel to China several times. He had a love for Chinese culture and made many friends that he loved and considered his extended family.
Being an only child he had many cousins that were like brothers and sisters to him and he always spoke of them with a smile on his face. He loved that he shared his Irish heritage with them.
In the end, he just wanted everyone to know that “It’s not goodbye, it’s see ya later”
