John Joseph Thompson of Hauppauge, NY, formerly of Brooklyn, NY and from a long line of John J Thompsons, at age 91 passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2022. John (known as Johnny to his family) was lucky enough to be married twice to two faithful women. John is predeceased by Dorothy (his first wife), brothers Richard, Robert, Thomas and sister Theresa Huber, Survived by wife, Mary, sons Jack Thompson (Linda), Jim Thompson (Peggy), Bill Thompson (Terri), daughters Mary Utter (Rob), Katie Thompson (Rick), daughter-in-law
Jo Ann Thompson, grandchildren Tricia Clark (Mike), John J. Thompson (Sarah), Michael Thompson (Kara), Emily Moscati (Justin), Carolyn Thompson, Elizabeth Coletti (Mike), Billy Thompson (fiancé Marisa), Brendan Thompson (Julie), Robert J. Utter, great-grandchildren Makayla Clark, Leah Clark, Benjamin Moscati, Samuel Moscati, Oliver Moscati, John J. Thompson (JJ), Lucy Thompson, and Addison Thompson.
John was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War, NYPD officer for 8 years, and retired from the FDNY after 24 years of service. He was a successful brick mason and worked well into his retirement years leaving his trade mark (white stone on the corner of each step) on many stoops in Queens. He raised 5 children with Dorothy as well as caring for his 3 nephews Sean, Darren and Brian Gallagher for 5+ years. He enjoyed traveling with Mary, going fishing and to the track with his brothers (and on occasion inviting the “Outlaws” to dinner). John was proud of his Irish Heritage and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 7 and AmVets Post 18. John loved socializing with his family and friends and will be truly missed. Farewell “Mr. Nice Guy”.
