December 11, 1951 - January 12, 2012
John H. Donnelly was born in Oyster Bay and was along time resident of Lake Grove. He graduated from
St. Dominics HS in Oyster Bay and attended St. Francis College in Bitteford, Me. 32 years ago, John married the love of his life, Debbie (Tolmie) Donnelly and together they have two lovely and married children, Shawn and Meghan.
John retired 10 years ago after working for the Long Island Railroad as a Track Foreman for 30 years. John was always known as a sports enthusiast. When he was younger, he was on the varsity football team for St. Dominics. He played saxophone and followed his curiosity and sense of discovery to Woodstock and participated in a the gathering that will live on in history as an American awakening.
Although he enjoyed all outdoor activities, he was his happiest when he was on the golf course. For those who knew him, golfing was his true passion. When he wasn't golfing he was either running or lounging by the pool. Many trips to Puerto Rico earned him his title Johnny Rincon. One of his highest accolades was being the self proclaimed Horseshoe Champion of Eastern Long Island. In whatever sport John played, he would always share camaraderie and laughter with his friends and relatives.
He also served his community by helping with the Sachem Athletic Club. He was a noble friend, neighbor and mentor. John was always available to friends and family, to lend a helping hand in time of need. When his twin brother Jim, was diagnosed with cancer, John quickly volunteered to donate his own stem cells to save his brothers life. When he wasn't helping others, he was always quick with a joke or a smile.
A devout family man second to none. John will be tearfully missed by all friends and family members. John is survived by his wife Debbie, son Shawn and spouse Becky, daughter Meghan Buchrieser and spouse James, father Paul and mother Marian, Brother Paul and spouse Janice, brother Peter and spouse Georgie, Brother Jim and sister Marybeth and spouse Jeff.
