Jill Berger Roth of Center Moriches died from Covid-19 on February16. She was 66.
She was born on August 29, 1954 to Michael and Libby Berger in Queens, New York. From Queens they moved to Flushing, Deer Park, where she attended Half Hollow Hills schools, and then moved to the East End.
Jill apprenticed as a dog groomer right out of high school and opened shops in Huntington, Speonk and Center Moriches. She had a very expansive clientele and devoted customers who followed her all the way from Southampton and west to Shirley. Her knowledge of dog grooming and the care of animals were seen in her love of her birds (peacocks, cockatiels, canaries) that she loved to rescue and keep as pets. Jill showed and bred English Springer Spaniels for years, and won countless awards as a fine breeder and handler. She and her husband showed various other breeds for customers at shows like Westminster Kennel Club.
Her creativity in art was prevalent in her work with ceramics which she sold at various venues, and held weekly workshops for her customers who wanted to paint and learn from her. She also loved to bake custom cakes, cupcakes, etc for family and friends.
Jill is survived by her devoted husband, Walter Roth; her sister, Stephanie Berger Battaglia and her husband, Wayne; her in-laws, Walter and Doris Roth, brother-in-law, Scott and his wife, Jean, and their 3 sons, Alex, Andrew, and Robert, plus her very dear friend Kristen Murray.
A private graveside ceremony was held for the family and friends at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Friday, February 19.
