(Bohemia, New York) Gerald Francis O’Connor. Gerald, 86 passed away peacefully on August 20,2023 surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Known as “Jerry” to his friends and family, he was known as the “Town Mayor” often seen talking with his fellow neighbors. Jerry was born on October 6, 1936 to Jeremiah and Juliet (Grace) O’Connor in Bronx, New York. A kid growing up in the Bronx in the era of the Depression, Jerry often told stories of playing stick ball in the streets and running from building to building. He entered in the Army in 1957 and was stationed in Germany, where he developed many of his lifelong friends who served alongside him. Upon discharge, he returned to the Bronx and began his education in accounting and and worked for some of the largest corporate firms including Hertz and Avis Rent A Car. Jerry branched out and developed his own tax business, which he ran until spring of 2023. Jerry provided his professional tax advice and service to dozens of clients, who considered him one of the most honorable and trustworthy individuals. An avid Giants fan for decades, the Giants winning the Super Bowl in 1991 was one of his greatest memories. Jerry considered Bohemia, Long Island his home for the last 45 years. He was involved with local election boards and civic organizations. Her served as the Treasurer of the Bohemia Civic Association for 10 years and was awarded the Edward E. Krepela Citizen of the Year Award in 2012. Jerry is survived by his wife Linda of 45 years and two children, Kevin (Alexandra) of Melbourne, Australia and Eileen (Joseph) Reardon of Ballston Spa, New York. Four grandchildren – his joy and light, Shaun, David, Emma and Thomas. He is predeceased by his sister, Sister Mary Philipa. The O’Connor family would like to thank all the health care professionals through the Catholic Health System who have provided the best medical care and a caring, supportive environment. Immediately following a celebration of Jerry’s life will take place at Kelley’s Irish Pub on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia. The family asks you to come with love in your heart and share fond memories of Jerry.
