In lieu of flowers, please donate to a cause that honors the work that Janet did for seniors and alzheimer patients ~ alz.org/donate
Janet Coleman was born August 24, 1959 to John and Agnes Coleman. The youngest of five; Jack Coleman, the late Denise Coleman, Mary Ellen Coleman, and Eileen Grennan. A resident of Ronkonkoma in her youth and most recently of Shirley, Janet was a Registered Nurse by trade for over 40 years. Janet was called to serve all her life, whether it was bringing home ice cream for her father from her first job at Carvel or her many patients she served throughout her long nursing career, Janet cared for everyone around her. She had a special heart for seniors and geriatric patients whom she treated with dignity and compassion. Known for her spirit of adventure and sense of humor, Janet also loved the beach, crafting, jewelry, macrame, and planting flowers.
Though taking care of others brought Janet joy nothing brought her more joy than her children, the loves of her life, Meaghan Gribbins and Jesse Russell; and her grandsons, Nathan and Nikoli. Janet was a steadfast supporter of Meaghan’s doctoral work and Jesse’s service in the Marines. In recent years the role Jan took most seriously was that of grandmother. She enjoyed doting on her grandsons, bringing them gifts, taking pictures, and taking trips together. She was at her best when she was surrounded by her family.
Janet leaves behind many friends and family, nieces and nephews she loved as her own, and some small peace is found when we remember the reunions she is having with her longtime friends Cat and Jean, her sister Denise and cousin Geri, and her loving parents. Though heartbroken, there is solace in the promise of Heaven.
