James Edward Leak

James Edward Leak, Sr.
James Edward Leak, Sr. was born on May 22, 1934 to Sarah Ann Cureton Leak and
Clayburn Leak in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Second Ward High School in 1941.
He played high school football as a defensive end. He served in the U.S. Army where
he was stationed in Germany. He attended the Electronic School in NYC. He retired
from the NYC Board of Education as a Security Guard and Custodial Crew Chief in the
Bronx. He was an advent golfer. He loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing the Word
with others.
James was married to the late Mattie Lee Curenton Leak. Three children were born
as a result of their union: Jo-Ellen Mason (Leak), NY; Jacqueline Leak Robinson,
(Robert), VA; James Edward, Jr. (deceased). He has children from previous unions:
Beverly Osabutey, MD; Michael Gaither (Mary), NC; Kenneth Gaither (Pat), NC; and
Kenneth RussellI, WA. He helped to raise Mattie’s two daughters: Gloria and GlendaMason, NC.
He has 11 grandchildren: Isaac Osabutey and Nadora Stewart (Beverly); Taneesha,
Saaed, Omar, Joshua Gaither (Michael); Jamel and Jalani Patterson (Jo-Ellen);
Jacquina, Trever and Arsaiah (Jacqueline). He has 13 great grandchildren and 1 great
great grandson. He leaves Nellie Simmons, a committed friend of many years; Alex,
and Ragnu, and a host of other caring family and friends.
