JAMES D. PAULSEN
April 30, 1933-March 13, 2023
James Francis Daniel Paulsen, age 89, passed away on March 13, 2023, in Moriches, NY. He was buried on March 20, 2023, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches, NY, after a funeral mass at Saint John the Evangelist R.C. Church, also in Center Moriches.
Jim was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, to Catherine (Finley) Paulsen (Kitty) and Louis (Lou) Paulsen on April 30, 1933. He married Judy (Popp)-Paulsen on April 5, 1992, at St. Stephen of Hungary RC church in New York, NY.
Jim attended St. Ephraim’s Catholic Academy grammar school in Brooklyn, NY, from 1939 to 1947. He graduated with honors from LaSalle Academy High School in New York, NY, in 1951, and from Brooklyn College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, also with honors.
Jim was employed in human resources management with the Home Insurance Company from 1961 to 1977. He retired as Vice President of Marketing from The American International Group (AIG) in New York, NY, in 1991. Jim was an active member of Saint John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Center Moriches, NY, including Treasurer of the Legion of Mary and Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound. He loved music, history, and old movies, and was an avid baseball fan.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Kitty (8-12-46) and Lou (2-22-72), and his three brothers, Robert (6-23-08), Ronald (2-14-16) and John Louis Paulsen (11-4-2015).
He is survived by his adoring wife, Judy; his brothers-in-law, Michael, Donald and Leonard Popp; sisters-in-law, Rosa (Paulsen) Williams, and Lois (Michael) and Barbara (Leonard) Popp; his four nephews, John (Aleita) Paulsen, Daniel (Shannon) Popp, David (Gina) Popp and Michael David Popp; two nieces, Melissa Paulsen (Anthony) Lauria and Jennifer Paulsen (Steve) Matisi; six great nieces, Julia and Grace (Matisi), Eliza (Paulsen), and Lydia (Daniel), Remi and Ari (David) Popp; and three great nephews, Joseph and Lucas (Lauria) and Nicholas (Matisi).
Jim was an especially kind and gentle soul — one of a kind. He was affectionately known by both family and friends as “Gentleman Jim,” and was loved by all who knew him. Jim was a truly devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed.
