Hjalmar Hansen

Hjalmar Hansen, of Hauppauge NY, age 80, passed away on May 1, 2023, surrounded by family and friends, after a debilitating battle with pancreatic cancer. Hjalmar was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. He was an only child, born March 9, 1943, in the Bronx to Emma and Jens Hansen and was raised in Dumont New Jersey. After graduating from Dumont High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and was Honorably discharged in 1964. After his military service concluded, he earned a BA in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickerson University.
Hjalmar is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Elizabeth (nee Croci), his dutiful son, Thor, his wife Linda, and three grandchildren, Ilene, Vivianne, and Scott. Other family includes: his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Roseanne (nee Croci) and George Buckleman of Hauppauge, nephews Michael his wife Danielle Buckleman, their two beautiful children, Michael jr. and Madeline, and Matthew Buckleman and Eileen Murray.
Hjalmar, an avid football and basketball fan, was also a voracious reader. He enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally and communing with nature – puttering around his yard and feeding the multitude of wildlife that lived in the woods surrounding his home. He was a member of the Sons of Norway Loyal Lodge #252 in St, James, NY and an active member of the Islip-Smithtown UNICO Chapter, and Italian-American service organization, in Smithtown, NY.

Memorial Visitation May 7, 2023 at Moloney’s Hauppauge Funeral Home, 840 Wheeler Rd., Hauppauge NY where a religious service will be held 7PM. Memorial Mass Monday 9:45AM at St. Thomas More RC Church, Hauppauge, NY. Interment following Calverton National Cemetery. Visitation hours Sunday 2-4 & 6-8PM.
