The beloved Herman J. Hugo, affectionately known as “Big Guy”, passed on Tuesday September 26, 2017 at 81 years of age. Born and raised in Central Islip, the son of Herman and Mary, Herman continued to live in his hometown where he raised a family of his own. He was survived by his five children: Michelle, Valerie, Patty, Mary, and Mark, his seven grandchildren, and great-grandson. In his early years, Herman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 – 1961. Following his military service, Herman spent his career as an engineer at Grumman Aerospace, where he worked on a number of projects including the Apollo Lunar Module and the EF-111. Herman was also a volunteer for the Central Islip Fire Department and Coast Guard Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent his days in retirement spending quality time with his loving wife Agnes and children. He continued his passion for aviation through his hobby of building model airplanes and flying them at his favorite park on Long Island. Reposing Moloney’s Hauppauge Funeral Home, 840 Wheeler Road,(Rte. 111) Hauppauge, NY on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The funeral mass will be held at Saint John of God Roman Catholic Church, Carlton Ave, Central Islip on Saturday September 30, 2017 at 10 am.
