Gretchen Anna Hoffmann

d. March 2, 2023

Gretchen Anna Hoffmann, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 2, 2023, just one day before her 93rd birthday. Gretchen was born in Germany on March 3, 1930, to Katherina and Klaus Appel. She lived through the turbulent times of World War II and eventually immigrated to the United States, where she raised a family and lived a life filled with joy and happiness.

Gretchen married the love of her life, Rudolph, in 1954, and together they had three children, Linda Murray, Edwin Hoffmann, and the late Ralph. She was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family first. Gretchen was also blessed with five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and happiness.

In her spare time, Gretchen had many hobbies that she enjoyed. She was an expert at needlework and spent many hours creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. She had a green thumb and loved gardening, especially tending to her beloved flowers. Gretchen was an avid birdwatcher and loved spending time outside, watching the birds in their natural habitat. She was also an avid reader and had a deep love of history, particularly the history of her native Germany. In addition, Gretchen had a great passion for German folk music and enjoyed listening to it whenever she had the chance.

One of Gretchen’s greatest joys in life was cooking and baking for her family. She would spend hours in the kitchen, preparing delicious meals and treats for those she loved. Her cooking was renowned throughout the family, and many of her recipes have been passed down through the generations.

Gretchen’s wake services will be held at Moloney’s Sinnickson Funeral Home at 203 Main St in Center Moriches on March 6, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The interment will take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Pinelawn, NY on March 7, 2023 at 11:15 am.

Gretchen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warm smile, kind heart, and generous spirit touched the lives of many, and her legacy will live on through her family and friends.
