Gregory Gene Martin

Gregory Gene Martin (Greg), 80 of Sayville, NY passed away on November 26, 2023 after an extended illness.

Greg was born on July 7^th, 1943 to Henry Elisha Martin and Virginia Sprague Martin in New York, N.Y.  Greg spent his life in service to others, first by joining the Navy and later spending a career in Fire Rescue and Emergency Services of Suffolk County as a Dispatcher and Supervisor.  Greg also was a lifelong volunteer and member of Lakeland Fire Department, serving as Chief and Commissioner and mentoring many young firemen throughout his life.

Later in life, after retiring and moving to the state of  Washington, Greg opened a karate dojo and taught young people martial arts, as he was a skilled black belt.  He later moved back to Long Island to be closer to family where he spent his final years. Greg was energetic with the “gift of gab”, never meeting a stranger.  He loved animals, laughed often and lived his life fully.

He is predeceased by his wife Barbara, sister Gail, brother Walter and grandson Timothy.  He is survived by his children Greg, Michele (Jon), Jennifer and Suzanne (Chris), sister Lois and grandsons Chris and Matthew.
