Gloria M. Sico

Gloria Marie Sico (née Ardolino) passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023 surrounded by love. Gloria is preceded in death by her late husband, Louis of 57 years, and her son James (aged 68). She is survived by her sister Josephine (102 years) and is the cherished Mother of Susan, Louis (Robin), Stephen, James’s
wife Andrea, and Joseph (Cheryl). Adored grandmother of Nicole, Daniel, Lauren, Jamie, Allison, Jessica and Alex, and six great grandchildren; Justin, Daniella, Savino, Thomas, Amelia and newborn Avery.

Like her husband Louis, she was a loving, affectionate and generous person who made family the center of her life. In her earlier years as a young mother, she was known throughout Massapequa for her hot dog wagon (and famous homemade onion sauce) which was located on the corner of Hicksville and Williams roads. The neighborhood children would gather daily, at Gloria’s home awaiting her return and any leftover hot dogs that accompanied her. If the hot dogs ran out the children happily ate the hot dog rolls with her special onion sauce and Gloria took tremendous pride in this daily ritual.

Gloria was a remarkable cook who generously expressed her love through feeding others and looked forward to weekly Sunday dinners with her extended family. A typical Italian matriarch, she insisted on feeding any visitors, even if they’d already eaten, and rarely took no for an answer. Gloria was passionate about all things nature and enjoyed gardening, bird watching and both growing and arranging flowers. In her later years Gloria began exploring the different art mediums and became quite the spirited artist, known for hand painting Christmas cards for her family-a tradition well-treasured among her relatives.

Gloria will be remembered for her generous spirit, her constant smile, and for the beautiful memories
she shares with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
