Ronkonkoma, NY - It is with great sadness that the family of Glenna M. Andjevsky, 82 announces her passing Wednesday (February 5, 2025).

Born on June 27, 1942 to Lawrence Young and Muriel Nurmi, she was a graduate of South Portland High School, South Portland, Maine. After graduating, she enlisted in the Army. She was in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC). She was stationed overseas for 18 months in France. She met the love of her life while in Paris. She would talk about her time in Paris and you could see the love and joy she had during her time there. She would tell stories of how her and her future husband would rent a car on their time off from the base and spend those days exploring all the sites, café’s and beauty of Paris. She always dreamed of returning, unable to, she relieved those times sharing her stories with loved ones. Upon her honorable discharge from the Army, she was married and lived in Farmingdale, until the home they had built in Ronkonkoma. There she resided and raised her children for the rest of her life. Surrounded by the best neighbors she could ask for. She enjoyed hosting summer barbeques for family, friends and neighbors and acting as lifeguard while her children and their friends enjoyed swimming in their backyard pool. She was a stay home mom and devoted her life to her husband, children and their happiness.

In High School, she played on the High School Softball team as a catcher. Later in life she was an avid bowler and played on many leagues. She supported her husband and his many softball leagues, taking the stats at the games. She LOVED watching her TV and Movies. She was a movie buff, any questions you had about anything to do with movies and TV; she was your go to girl and could give your answers off the top of her head. She enjoyed attending her daughters swim meets. Everyone knew who she was as she sat front and center in her lawn rocking chair not only cheering on her daughters, but also the teams. She cherished and looked forward to spending her time with her grandkids, who she adored and loved, they called her “Grams”.

As some may be aware, she suffered a stroke almost 2 years to the day of her passing. She spent 4 months at Momentum Rehabilitation for recovery. While there she met so many wonderful, caring people who took care of her. Not only was it their job, but they became her extended family. There are so many people who made her time there special. She had wonderful roommates; Eleanor and her daughter Lorraine, Tonia and her daughter Tonia who helped make the time go by with great conversation, laughs and sometimes tears. Special thanks to Carl her physical therapist who would have a riddle of the day to have her ponder and always made her smile, with lots of nicknames for her and the day depending on how she was feeling “Get up & go Glenna”, “Gloomy Glenna”, a favorite “Glennie Girl” to name a few. Carl pushed her to be able to walk again. Steve her occupational therapist that would have to use his sweet demeanor to get her to work on her fine motor skills, Michele and Kim her speech therapist that had the kindest, gentle ways of working on her speech. To Nicole, David and Pat the wonderful nurses who cared for her each and every day, to Lavi and Antionette, and all the CNAs who took great care taking care of her. There were so many other wonderful people to name, who made a difference in her recovery. Thank you! Then there was Bianca her afternoon/evening CNA. Bianca was the beacon of light for Glenna’s recovery. She gave of herself, the smiles, the hugs, the tears and laughter. Glenna looked forward to Bianca everyday walking through her door. Bianca meant the world to her; she became a member of the family. She would introduce Bianca to people as her daughter. Forever grateful to Bianca and her unwavering love and looked forward to talking to her on the phone and the visits she had with her after leaving.

After her release from rehab, Glenna moved upstate with her daughter and family and spent close to a year to recover to her fullest potential with the end goal of returning to her home on Long Island. She had wonderful in house therapist; Katherine (OT) and Marcy (PT). She looked forward to their visits each week more for the companionship, less for the actual work as she was not a fan of actually doing the exercises and work. She would try to get out of it, but Katherine and Marcy wouldn’t let it go, they are one of the reasons she was able to get back home. During the day once summer ended, she was under the watchful eyes of two of the most special girls who took care of her, while family went to work and gave the family peace of mind. Anna and Emma would take turns coming every day to care for her. She would look forward to them coming. She would spend hours talking with the girls over breakfast and sharing stories about her life, watching movies and TV together, as well as bargaining with them about not doing her exercises. She would refer to them as “her girls” and continue to call or face time them after returning to Long Island. She was able to spend quality time with Tim, Cindi, Nolan and Alexandra as they lived a distance away and only saw them once a year prior to moving up with them. This time with them gave her a year to make many wonderful memories. She especially looked forward to watching Hallmark movies and the Turner Classic Movie Network, watching the black and white movies from long ago with her son-in-law Tim, as he was the only fan in the house who would sit and watch. She would talk with him about the actors and actresses and everything movies, as well as sneak her sweet treats. The ultimate goal always in mind, to get back to the home she loved. She final got her wish and was able to return home. She lived at her home for a year with Jennifer and her 3 grandchildren, the grandchildren she had raised as if they were her own. Here she spent her final year living with her daughter and the grandchildren who gave of themselves each and every day to ensure she could continue to live at her home as was her wish. She cherished her time back at home.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 25 years, Alexander Andjevsky in 1998. She is survived by her three loving daughters, Lisa (Mike) Parrienllo and their two children Anthony and Kaitlyn, Cindi (Tim) Rosell and their two children, Nolan and Alexandra, Jennifer Andjevsky and Kevin Nitzsche and their three children Alexander, Andrew and Julia. She was also predeceased by her brother Lawrence “Skipper” Young, Jr. She is survived by her loving sisters, Lucille Pianka, Evelyn Attenello, and Janet Wilks. She is also survived by Dorothy and family and Nancy whose families in conjunction with Glenna’s would share celebrating the different holidays with all the family, children and cousins and those that have gone before her rotating the different holidays and having the loved ones together to celebrate roasting and toasting to “the hostess with the mostest” where great memories in the kitchen and around the table were made by all.

She will be laid to rest in peace with the love of her life on Valentine’s Day.
