Gerard “Jerry/Roddy” Joseph Turner, 84, of Shirley, NY, formerly of Brentwood, NY, passed away, Friday, March 23, 2018, at is home surrounded by family.
Gerard is survived by his wife Margaret Mary “Peggy” of 58 years, 3 daughters, Marybeth (Mike Boyles), Patricia (Roderick) Hausser, Alicia (James) Holland and 2 sons, Gerard Jr. and Christopher and many loving brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Gerard was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Woodhaven, Queens, NY. A veteran of the Korean War, Gerard also served bravely with the NYPD for 25 years. His last command was with the Queens Warrant Division. Gerard went on to serve as Assistant Vice President of Security for European American Bank for 15 years.
Gerard spent most of his retirement years golfing, travelling some and visiting and vacationing with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Gerard will be fondly remembered for his fourth of July pool parties where the phrase “final, final” became legendary; his meticulous lawn; his love of all sports, especially golf; cigars and scotch; his daily newspapers (which he read from cover to cover); his love for “the little woman”; but mostly, his love and admiration for his grandchildren.
