1941 – 2023
Geraldine “Crazy Gerri” Vorisek of Edgewater, Florida passed away on September 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Despite her sudden illness, she was a strong fighter until the end.
Geraldine was born on February 10, 1941, in Ronkonkoma, NY. During her long career as a “Big Yellow School Bus Driver” and Sachem School District employee, she forged many friendships and became known for her fun-loving spirit.
Gerri and Mike are an inspiration to many, having been together for 70 years. They met as teenagers during the winter on the ice of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY. They had to wait until Gerri turned 18 to get married. Gerri and Mike got married on Valentine’s Day 1959 just four days after her 18th birthday. at St Joseph’s Church in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY.
They soon welcomed their two daughters. Pamella “Pammy” and Michele. Gerri and Mike dedicated their lives caring for their daughters. Together they shared a life of loving memories and great devotion to caring for “Pammy” who was born with special needs.
Gerri and Mike started their life together on Long Island, NY where their favorite pastime was boating with family and friends on the Great South Bay. After retirement they became “Snowbirds” Splitting their time between the Adirondacks in NY on the Hudson River and the East Coast Shores of Florida. They loved living on the water and enjoying everything the outdoor life brings.
Gerri came up with her own Nicknames and she loved to tell everyone to refer to her by them. Her legacy is “Crazy Gerri”. She loved to laugh, make others laugh, and to play practical jokes. April fool’s day was her favorite. During her life in the Adirondacks, it was “River Women”. She enjoyed the rustic life of boating, campfires, snowmobiling and everything that mountain life could offer.
“Crazy Gerri” will be remembered for her outgoing personality. She had a hysterical sense of humor, was a free spirit, and loved to have a good time. She was selfless and always put others first, no matter what, without hesitation. She was a great listener and always offered the best advice. She was the best wife, mother, aunt, caretaker, but most importantly Best Friend!
Gerri had so many passions throughout her life. She was famous for her “Big Blue Cup” she used it every day and traveled everywhere with it. She got many questions and comments “what is in that big blue cup?”, she will rest comfortable with the “Big Blue Cup” at her side; She loved traveling and surrounding herself with the nautical life, boating, and the mountains; Cooking – She was an amazing cook and loved to take cooking classes, watch cooking shows, experiment, and share amazing meals & recipes. She ensured that every day was surrounded by great food; Painting / Crafting – She had many artistic passions and created amazing lifelong pieces that we all will treasure forever; Gardening – She was a Master Gardener, and she took pride in her outside landscape, herbs, and gardens; Antiquing. She loved to collect and restore antiques. She was skilled at finding inexpensive unwanted wooden furniture and restoring them to beautiful pieces. Her homes are surrounded by the treasures she found, restored, and are proudly displayed;
Garage Saling – She could never pass up a Garage Sale. She would pile up the kids, friends, nieces, and nephews and everyone knew how to spot the garage sale signs. She stopped the car for every sale; Music – Gerri was a “Parrothead” and she loved listening to Jimmy Buffet as well as Raggae, Country, and the Oldies. She was surrounded by her favorite music on her last days.
Geraldine is survived by her husband Michael Vorisek; daughters Michele and Pamella; and son-in-law Bob. Geraldine was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews; her nephews Christopher Vorisek, Jimmy Culhane, Michael Culhane, Willy Culhane, preceded her in death.
Gerri was strongest person you would every know and a fighter until the end. With the weight of the world on her shoulders, she kept going, kept pushing forward with a smile on her face. We all will miss her so much, but she lives on in each of us in the values she taught us and the great memories we shared.
We are confident that she is resting peacefully knowing how much she was appreciated, how much she was and always will be loved, and how deeply she will be missed. She will always be in our hearts until we meet again.
