Geraldine Daguanno was born in 1933 in Queens, NY, the child of Anthony and Margaret Castellano. Her beloved younger sister Margaret would come years later. Known as Jer (to her friends) mom to her kids and Gram and GG to her grandchildren. She grew up in Ozone Park, NY and attended John Adams H.S. She would be the last surviving member of the “Hairy chested Girls from Ozone Park” as her friends lovingly dubbed themselves. Her longtime friends would be her lifeblood throughout. She would talk fondly of her summers as a youth at Mastic Beach where she would spend the days at the beach swimming and dancing and partying the nights away. It was at Mastic Beach that she would meet her future husband, George. In the mid-fifties they would be wed. Shortly after starting a family, they moved from Brooklyn, NY to Brentwood Long Island. They would have 6 children in total, George, Denise, Diane, Gerard, Guy and Greg. She was a fierce defender of her kids and encouraged and supported their schooling and activities. She never missed a game. Her life truly was her 9 grandchildren and four great grandkids. It was her grandchildren that gave her the most joy and purpose, it was with them that she was the happiest. A close second was her beloved tennis. From her house she would travel from Australia to Paris, Wimbledon to Queens each year, never missing a match. She would cheer on her favorites from Jimmy Connors to Marat Safin and all the others in between. There was not a sport that she wouldn’t watch, including golf and football. She loved a good Super Bowl party. She loved coffee with cream and sugar with toast and butter in the mornings. She loved her Montauk afternoons on the deck with her puzzle in one hand and her gimlet in the other staring at the water beyond content with her family by her side. She was simple and complex, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Geraldine Daguanno is survived by her children Guy (Karen), Greg (Denise), Denise D'Aguanno, and Diane Crocker (late Peter), and Daughter-In-Law Joanne. Geraldine was a cherished grandmother to Ian, Emma, Gregory, Olivia, Erik, Isabella, Skye, Dario, and Celia. She was also a beloved great-grandmother to Jack, Amelia, Avery, and Zoey.
