GENTRY HUGH DAVIDSON
Gentry was born on April 6, 1933 at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA where he spent his earliest years, settling with his mother in NYC once he reached his school aged years.
Gentry attended parochial school, followed by LaSalle Academy. He attended the Arts Students’ League on and off for several years to hone his artistic talent. He was an oil painter, doing still life painting and portraits. He used many mediums but oil paint was his favorite.
He married his first wife, Betty Joan Hinton in 1949 with whom he had 4 children. Cindy, Elizabeth “Besty”, Jerian and Bruce. Gentry and Betty reunited in 2001 and lived happily together as husband and wife up until his death.
In 1966, Gentry married his second wife, Linda Prudence Dowe with whom he had 4 children, Donald, Gordon S., Gentry Scott and Melinda.
He had many hobbies including, leather work, beading, painting miniature soldiers, and, playing his beloved bagpipes, which was self-taught. He played with the Glen Eagle Pipe Band on Long Island for several years. He continued playing for family, church, weddings and funerals. He loved to read, learning about Native American history, and art.
But most of all he loved his family. He is predeceased by his mother, Margaret B. McDonald, his daughter Elizabeth “Betsy”, two infant sons, Gordon S., and Gentry Scott. He is survived by his daughter Cindy McKinney, Jerian Zisis, Melinda (Brian) Butkus, sons, Bruce, and Donald (Georgiana). He was a beloved grandfather of 20 as well as a great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, who will be missed by all who knew him.
