Frances Mary Camarda Giambanco
“Aunt Martha”
Frances (12 Sept 1936 to 10 February 2024) died surrounded by love in her home in NY. She was the daughter of Salvatore Camarda, an undocumented dock worker from Sicily who entered the country through the docks of the French market in 1926. Every year a glass was raised in honor of the Battaglia family who took care of Salvatore and shepherded him in safety to the Bronx. It was in the Bronx that Frances attended the Academy of St Ursula being exposed to fine couture through her older sister, Josephine, who was a dress maker for Bergdorf Goodman. Even in the depths of her advanced dementia,
Frances dressed to the nines. Linda, her stylist of over thirty years would come do her hair and nails until just days before Frances’ transition. Fran was engaged at 16, married at 19, had five kids, earned a bachelor’s and an MBA while becoming the first female executive at AMEX listed manufacturing telco, Telecommunications Industries, Inc. Fran transitioned to Dale Carnegie where she became a popular instructor. Following years of accolades, Fran taught at St Joseph’s University until she was 80.
Fran’s dementia began to advance rapidly following the death of her husband of over 60 years, Frank. Fran is survived by five children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her sister, Rosalie, 93.
The extended Giambanco family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd Hospice as well as her live in care givers, Miss Latoni Stewart and Miss AnnMarie Flinch.
