Everine Watkins

Everine Watkins was born on January 8, 1943 in Sparta, Georgia to Mamie Kate Harper Watkins and Frank Watkins Sr. One of 10 children, with two sets of twins. She departed this life on April 12, 2021 in Central Islip, NY.

Everine graduated from the Macon School for the blind at 16 years old with high honors. She wrote and read braille and was a member of the school choir. Her vocal range was soprano and her choir won many awards, they toured various states where she met Chuck Berry, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles. She had the voice of an Angel.

She attended St. Mark’s AME in Sparta, Georgia where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized.

Her family moved to NY in 1963 and lived in Wyandanch, Brentwood and Central Islip as a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters Yvonne (Kurt), Sharon (Eric), bonus son Charles who she affectionately called Sideways. Grandchildren Kyle, Erica (Peter) and Keven (Marie). Great grandchildren Giovanni, Luis, Cameron and Cole. Sisters Olivia, Marian (Ira), and Mary (Robert) and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mamie and Frank. Her siblings, Irene, her twin, Evelyn, Betty, Frank Jr, Frances and Martha.
