Eugene “Gene” M. Barry, Sr.

Eugene Barry, Sr, 84 of Central Islip, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on March 12, 2025.

Gene was a devoted family man, cherished by his loving wife Dawn of 57 years and their three children: Eugene, Jr., Michael (Joyce), and Dawnmarie (Rob) and Joyce, his daughter-in-law. He was also a beloved grandfather to Allison, Alanna, Zachary, and Brendan, who brought immense joy to his life.

Gene dedicated his life to serving his community as a proud member of the New York City Police Department, from which he retired after many years of honorable service.

In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, watching football, and spending quality time with his family. He especially treasured the many summers spent camping at Hither Hills State Park in Montauk, NY, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. He found peace sitting at the marina, beach, or park, watching the water—it was his happy place! These moments will be cherished by his family forever.

He spent many years of his life caring for his dear mother until she passed at the age of 102 and later for his wife Dawn during her battle with Alzheimer's disease, providing her with top-notch care, guidance, and unwavering love until she passed less than three years ago. His heart was broken by her loss.

Eugene's legacy of dedication, love, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.

Visiting services will be held on Friday, March 14, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Moloney Funeral Home in Central Islip, NY. The funeral will take place on Saturday, March 15, at St. John of God Church, with services starting at 9:15 am.
