Elisabeth “Liz” Hennessy, 82 of Melville, New York passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025 with family by her side. She was born on June 21, 1942 in Flushing, NY to parents Max and Johanna Grimm.
Liz attended Bishop McDonald High School in Brooklyn and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from St John’s University. She later attended Polytechnic University and earned a Master of Science in Computer Science. Liz worked as a Senior Database Administrator for the Estée Lauder Corporation for over thirty years. She loved quilting and made dozens of baby quilts and Christmas stockings for friends and family over the years. She also loved to bake and was famous for her banana bread and snickerdoodles.
Liz was very involved in the South Huntington Schools PTA and an active parishioner of St Elizabeth’s Parish in Melville for nearly sixty years. The faith and friendships formed in those two special places defined much of her life. Liz was an avid runner, completing her first of two NYC Marathons at age 50 in 1992. Whether it was Tai Chi at the library or long walks with friends, she was always on the move and being social. Despite a busy calendar full of races, volunteering, and socializing with friends, she never missed events, big or small, near or far, for her nine beloved grandchildren.
Liz was the devoted mother of James (Natalie), Elisabeth Hennessy (Michael), and Joanne Dodds (Wallace). She is also survived by her beloved sister Barbara and her brother Ernst. She is the cherished grandmother of Katie (Lucas Johnson), Alicia and James Hennessy; Christopher, Mary and Anna Koke; Sarah, Liam and Sophie Dodds.
