Eileen L. Carini October 9, 1934 - June 12, 2024 Eileen Louise Carini (nee Gardella) passed away on June 12, 2024, at Surge Rehabilitation and Nursing, Middle Island, NY at the age of 89. She lived her entire life in New York City and Long Island.
Eileen was a strong and independent woman devoted to her family and closest friends. She dedicated over 35 years of her life to blessed Sacrament School, Bronx, NY. Starting as a volunteer librarian, she worked her way to becoming the school secretary and administrator. Eileen formed lasting relationships with the sisters, priests, teachers, coworkers, volunteers and students which endured until her passing. She was known for her thoughtfulness, always remembering birthdays, special occasions, and holidays with heartfelt notes and cards filled with confetti and scratch off tickets. Eileen enjoyed crocheting and created many blankets and afghans for her loved ones and their families. She loved old movies and often remarked that “they don’t make them like they used to”. Eileen truly enjoyed hearing from her many friends and family and always ended phone conversations with “Happy Everything!”.
Eileen‘s fondest memories include visits to her sister Roe, traveling to Bellingham, WA to spend time with her best friend from high school, Flo and her family, as well as Disney trips and cruises with her adopted granddaughter, Josephine and her family, and trips to Las Vegas with her dear friends, Flo and Roz. She spent as much time as possible visiting her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews!
Eileen is survived by her daughter, Palma L. O’Keefe; son, Joseph Carini (Elizabeth); Grandchildren, Thomas O’Keefe (Mary), Christopher O’Keefe (Lizzy), Kathleen Carini (Brian), Amanda Carini (Matt), Joseph Carl Carini; great grandchildren, Grace, Jamie, Sonny; adopted granddaughter, Josephine McGrady (James); Brother-in-law, John Tiburzi; nephews, John Michael Tiburzi (Lizzy), Raymond Tiburzi (Regina), Douglas Tiburzi (Gail), cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Joseph and Louise Gardella; brother, Walter Gardella; sister, Rosemarie Tiburzi; and son-in-law, Thomas P. O’Keefe.
Eileen graduated with high honors from Yorkville Vocational High School, New York. She was very active at Blessed Sacrament Church in the Bronx until she moved to Mastic Beach, then attended Saint Jude’s Church in Mastic Beach. She grew up in Harlem on Old Broadway, raised her family in the Bronx and retired to Mastic Beach, Long Island, where she remained until her passing.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Moloney Sinnecksons Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Center Moriches, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 21, 10 AM at Saint Jude’s Church, 89 Overlook Dr., Mastic Beach, NY. Eileen will be laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery, 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY.
