Dominick Michael Severino
Dominick Michael Severino of Bay Shore, NY passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022. He was 98 years old and leaves behind an incredible legacy.
Born September 12, 1923 in Brooklyn, Dominick was a devoted son and brother. At 19 years old he was drafted into the Army during World War II, where he honorably served overseas for more than two years. Shortly after returning from the war he met the love of his life, Rose (nee Strocchia). They got married in April 1950 and had many happy years on Jackson Street in Brooklyn before settling down in Bay Shore.
Dominick was a hard worker, proud of his time as a foreman for the NYC Department of Sanitation and working at Marine Midland Bank. Although he enjoyed these jobs, his true passion was taking care of his family. Dominick cherished every moment he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and made a point to be present for every milestone.
Dominick is fondly remembered for so many wonderful attributes, from his stellar singing skills, charismatic personality, quick witted jokes, excellent billiard talents, patience for BBQ’ing chicken legs and more. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the NY Yankees, Miami Dolphins, and St. Bonaventure basketball. Dominick was also sharp as a tact, frequently sharing wonderful memories of his life with others, conquering word scrambles and crossword puzzles in record time, and embracing new skills even in his later years – notably learning how to use an iPhone so he could FaceTime with his family members near and far. And importantly, Dominick was a devout Catholic never missing the mass or saying his daily rosary. For these memories and so many more, he leaves a legacy of profound joy.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 71 years, Rose, his daughter Marie (Joseph Cotignola) and son Joseph; 12 grandchildren Dominick (Rachel), Joseph (Maggie), Matthew (Theresa), Nicole (Rob), Dominick, Roseanne (Luis), Joseph; the apples of his eye, his 10 great-grandchildren – who lovingly call him Poppy – Dominick, Luke, Rebekah, Joseph, Annemarie, Catherine, Matthew, Michael, Anthony and Nicholas; and countless family and friends, as Dominick had a way of making anyone he met smile and feel welcome. He was truly one of a kind.
