Dolores Arato

d. March 16, 2021

Dolores Arato (Savignano), age 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 16th, 2021, due to a sudden stroke.  Dolores (Dee) was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, girl-friend/companion, and great friend to many people.

Dolores was from an Italian-American family and grew up in Brooklyn, New York.  Her parents owned a fruit and vegetable store and she was the youngest of four siblings.  She spent her youth going to Coney Island Beach, McCarren Park Pool, and Ebbets Field with her father attending Brooklyn Dodger games.  She attended Washington Irving High School in Manhattan and upon graduation in 1954, worked at Macys Herald Square in the buying office.

In 1956, Dolores married Louis P. Arato. They moved to Plainview, New York, a NYC suburb in 1964. They bought a home and raised three boys together, Michael, John and Louis Paul Jr. They were very much in love and had a great marriage. Having a close family was extremely important to Dolores and spending time with them was her favorite thing to do.

She had a very successful 35-year career at Geico Insurance where she worked in various roles. Her husband Lou passed away suddenly in 1991 and the family was heartbroken.

In 2000, Dolores met her current companion, Julius Fiorini, a WWII war hero, and they spent the last 21 years together. They were very much in love and together they traveled the world. They went on countless trips to Europe, cruised to many exotic places, and had loads of fun. They also both loved to dance and together could tear up a room.

Dolores was known for her sweet disposition and according to her sons and family, was one of the world’s greatest cooks!  She could cook really great food, but her specialty was baking.  We will all miss her cooking, especially her amazing Sunday Sauce with Macaroni, Christmas cookies, Cinnamon Twists, and Easter Breads.

She was preceded in death (by two days) by her son Michael Arato and grandson Michael (Mikey) Arato who passed away in 2007.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law Glenna Arato (Wood), granddaughter Maria, son John Arato and wife Nancy (Gross) Arato of Laurel Hollow and children Johnny and Talia, son Louis Paul Arato and wife Melissa (Lopez) Arato of Smithtown and children Theresa and Louie.  She was also loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family, The Fiorini Family, and many, many friends.

Please join us in celebrating her life. We will always carry Dee in our hearts forever and ever.
