Diane Teresa Carleton
(October 25, 1940 – February 8, 2023)
Diane Teresa Carleton (nee Guest) of Holbrook, NY, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years old.
Diane was born October 25, 1940, in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late Anna and Arthur Guest, one of a growing family with five children. At age 20 she married her best friend and life’s love, Robert J. Carleton. Together they began raising a family of their own in a happy and loving marriage that spanned 62 years.
Diane defined her life as a strong, independent, hardworking, and above all, loving woman, with an adventurous spirit. She delighted in beating the odds and applied a grit and determination to succeed in all her endeavors.
Diane was a role model for her family, balancing a 28-year career in the principal’s office of Sachem North high school, and part-time work as a travel agent, with what she always considered her most important work, as a wife and mom. She imparted to her children and grandchildren the importance of living life to the fullest, a delight for sports, and a love for travel, which was one of her passions. Over her lifetime, Diane took a remarkable 84 cruises.
Diane treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. Her joy only grew as she became a grandmother, watching with pride as her children raised families of their own in a tight-knit and deeply loving extended family. Diane’s grandchildren were a special source of her happiness and she was deeply devoted to them.
Of all the memories in our hearts, it is you, as wife, mother, and grandmother, that will always be most beautiful to us.
Diane is survived by her husband, Robert, J. Carleton, of Holbrook, NY. She is also survived by her daughters, Linda A. Carleton, Kathleen P. Carleton, Colleen A. Cosgro, and Diane T. Rudman. She was the proud grandmother to Christopher R. Carleton, Patrick C. Carleton, Kaitlyn M. Cosgro, Ryan P. Cosgro, Brian J. Rudman, Sean M. Cosgro, Kevin P. Rudman, Michael C. Reilly, Connor G. Reilly, and Katie M. Reilly.
It is with profound sorrow that Diane was predeceased by her loving son, Robert J. Carleton II, only one month before her passing. She is also predeceased by her siblings, Arthur Guest, William Guest, Marion Guest, and Annamae Bowman.
