Deogracias Feria Empleo, 99, of Nesconset, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on September 28th, 2023. He was born on February 3rd, 1924. He was a Philippine soldier in World War II and survived the Death March. He became a beloved medical doctor in Ghana in the 1960s. He worked as a missionary doctor then moved to the government hospital as a surgeon. He later worked at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital, Southside Hospital and Riverhead Hospital.
Deogracias was a father to three sons, Edwin, Wendell and Robert. He had one daughter, Josephine, daughter-in-law Virginia, son-in-law Joseph and several grandchildren, including Maya and Reiner. His son and his wife, Josephine, preceded him in death.
Deogracias was a devout Jehovah’s Witness who found solace and strength in his faith. Music brought him joy and he could sing like Perry Cuomo. There are no public services at this time. His memory will be honored at Calverton National Cemetery.
