Dawn M. Barry

Dawn M Barry (Gammy), 78 of Central Islip, died peacefully on October 30, 2022. She was born August 11, 1944, in Brooklyn to Allan and Muriel Green and later moved to Central Islip where she married Gene, her husband of 58 years raising 3 children. After graduating from CI High School in 1962, she attended nursing school in Glen Cove, and worked at Southside Hospital. She worked as a Manager at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop in Central Islip where she retired after 20 years of service. Gammy’s hobbies and interests included antiquing, gardening, cooking, and frequent trips to Atlantic City (the penny slot machines were her favorite). She loved spending time with her family, especially her 4 grandchildren (who she spoiled like crazy). She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family members, including her mother-in law until she passed away at age 102. She is survived by her husband, Gene, her three children – Eugene, Dawnmarie (Bob), Michael (Joyce), brother Billy (Scarlett) and her four adorning grandchildren, Allison, Alanna, Zachary and Brendan. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother- in- law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
