It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Founder, Daniel J. Shybunko. Daniel passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 30, 2019 at the age of 86 years old. Survived by his wife, Carol Shybunko, and his children with his late wife, Laura; Daniel (Linda), Stephen (Kerry), Nora (David), Donna and Anne (Jamie). He also left behind 11 beloved grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Daniel was born in Hempstead, New York on June 25, 1933. He was President of his class at Hempstead High School in 1951. Daniel received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and soon after served honorably as a Lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Daniel then began his career working for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation where he served as a Project Engineer and Project Manager for 25 years.
In 1971, Daniel founded GSE Dynamics, Inc. and continued to successfully grow the business over the last four decades, with help from his daughter, Anne, over the last 18 years. GSE was Daniel’s passion and he continued to work and bid on government contracts up until his final days.
Daniel’s other major accomplishments include serving as the Highway Commissioner and as the Mayor of the Village of Head of the Harbor. He has been recognized throughout the years by Newsday, LIBN, The Hauppauge Industrial Association, The Cradle of Aviation and The Ward Melville Heritage Organization for his leadership and excellence in Aerospace on Long Island.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The GSE Shybunko Memorial Fund and sent to GSE Dynamics at 25 Corporate Drive, Hauppauge NY 11788. The proceeds from this fund will be used to support manufacturing and workforce training, in addition to small business entrepreneurship.
