Claude Merritt passed peacefully on January 9, 2025 at the age of 70. He lived in Yaphank and grew up ice skating on the lake and exploring the outdoors. He later moved to Center Moriches where he raised his family and lived for 54 years.
He was very proud of his work as an electrical contractor and enjoyed meeting and working with his clients over the 35 years he was in business. He was capable of doing any job when it came to contracting and enjoyed building things.
He was a wonderful husband, provider, friend and father – someone who could always be counted on to help. His joy came from being able to do things for other people and he volunteered his time for various community groups during his life. He dedicated much of his time to his children’s interests in Boy Scouts, soccer and softball. He continued to help others by being an organ donor.
He loved to be outdoors and to be active. He was an avid skier, skater, boater, and hunter. He loved listening to local musicians perform.
He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife and friend, Debra, his son Wesley, his daughter Ashley, and members of the community.
