Christopher Michael Spevack was a happy and fun loving child with a kind heart, who was smart and always willing to help those who needed it.
As a child he was always on the run – riding bikes and playing with friends all day, and playing on his local baseball and soccer teams. Chris also spent many happy days bowling with his grandpa.
At the age of 12 Chris was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma brain tumor. No matter how hard treatment was, or how sick he felt, Chris never complained, and he won the hearts of all medical professionals, educators, and everyone else who cared for him. Starlight Children’s Foundation gave Chris the amazing opportunity to meet his favorite movie villain, Freddy Krueger (actor Robert Englund), and Chris treasured the mementos he was given that day (they are all still on display in his home today!). Chris’ bravery and strong will helped him persevere, and he danced the night away at his remission/14th birthday party!
Although Chris had to face many obstacles in his life, he had high expectations for himself and always worked hard to conquer his goals. He earned his Master’s degree and became highly respected in his career. Chris built a family with his wife Christine and their 3 dogs, and continued to touch the lives of everyone he met. Uncle Chris became a favorite playmate for his nieces and nephew, and a true friend to all around him. He fulfilled his dreams and self-published a memoir about his childhood cancer experience, in the hopes that it would help other childhood cancer patients and their families keep their faith alive.
In 2017, Chris was diagnosed once again with an aggressive brain cancer. Once again, he exemplified the values of bravery and strength, and fought with every ounce of his being. Although he couldn’t overcome this illness, he remains an inspiration as a fighter, and a warrior at heart.
Chris is survived by his wife Christine, parents Susan and Joseph, sister Tara, sister in law Dawn, brothers in law Danny and Tom, mother in law and father in law Ann and Joseph, nieces Ariella, Kaitlyn, and Karissa, and nephew Michael.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to Starlight Children’s Foundation (www.starlight.org) and Camp Adventure (www.kidsneedmore.org/how-we-help/camp-adventure)
