Christel Helen Koch

Christel Helen (Jung) Koch of Syracuse, NY (formally of St. James, NY), passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 22, 2024 at the age 88. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Koch (predeceased). She was a loving mother to her three sons, Michael, Robert (Gabriele) and Lawrence (Victoria) and the proud grandmother of William and Jessica.

She was born in Wuppertal Germany and was one of six children. She became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States and earned a Master’s Degree from Stony Brook University. She became and retired as a Teacher’s Aide with the Connetquot C.S.D. Christel loved to travel with her husband and son Michael, and went on many cruises and to many different parts of the world. She also loved to garden and take long daily walks through the Head of the Harbor.

There will not be any Funeral Mass, and will be buried, alongside her husband Robert at Calverton National Cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but rather to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org/donate).

We would also like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Loretto nursing home in Syracuse for providing Christel with exceptional care. Her family is very much appreciative of their kindness.
