Caterina Caleca

Caterina (Cusumano) Caleca was born on June 12th, 1941 in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily. Caterina immigrated to New York in 1963 along with her father, Pietro Cusumano.

In August 1963, Caterina met Giuseppe Caleca, and the two wed just three months later on November 2nd, 1963. She worked as a seamstress in a factory for several years before becoming affectionately known as “Nonna”.

Caterina was always found alongside family. She and Giuseppe traveled back to Sicily most summers throughout the years to visit loved ones. Caterina loved to cook for anyone who would sit for a meal and took pride in caring for others through food and hospitality, as her home was always thoughtfully curated.

Caterina passed peacefully on November 7th, 2023 in Boca Raton, Florida. Caterina was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Luciano Cusumano, and sister Vita Mistretta. She is survived by her husband, Giuseppe Caleca; two daughters, Angela Boccadifuoco (Ignazio Boccadifuoco) and Maria Barsch (Michael Barsch); five granddaughters, Samantha Madocks (Russell Madocks), Brianna Boccadifuoco (Devin Anderson), Julianna Kessler (Garret Kessler), Kayla Barsch, and Sophia Boccadifuoco; and siblings Giovanni Cusumano, Giacomo Cusumano and Leonarda Tarantola.

Services will be held at Moloney’s Holbrook Funeral Home on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 from 4pm-9pm. Mass will be held at St. John Nepomucene in Bohemia, NY on Monday, November 13th, 2023 at 10am.
