Carol Joan Kirdahy

Beloved Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Mother and Grandmother

August 1st, 1957 – April 9, 2022

Carol Kirdahy was born on August first at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Center to Dr. Paul E and Joan Kirdahy, the 2nd child in what would ultimately become a tight-knit family of seven children. Carol spent her childhood in the company of a large extended family and life-long friends on Merrivale Drive.

A 1975 graduate of Hauppauge High School, Carol went on to beauty school, and ultimately found her purpose and calling in the recovery community, studying at the J.P. Institute of Alcoholism and Addiction and most recently earning her New York Peer Specialist Certification from the Academy of Peer Services this year.

Carol was passionately committed to her own sobriety and throughout her life she gave selflessly to help many others along their own recovery journey.  Carol volunteered extensively with programs committed to substance abuse rehabilitation, including Apple Inc/Phoenix Houses of Long Island and individually as a caregiver and companion to those battling addiction.

Carol was a fiercely devoted mother to her son, Ryan Curran, and adored spending time with him, his fiancée Ashley, and Carol’s two grand-daughters Sophia (7) and Julianna (4). The highlight of her days was being silly together, making them laugh, and watching them grow into strong and independent girls.

Carol could often be seen driving her beloved pale blue VW Bug with eye lash headlights, affectionately named ‘Betty McNally,” an homage to both Betty Ford and to her late brother-in-law and partner in sobriety, Terrence McNally. Carol found community and inspiration in Alcoholics Anonymous and drew and provided incredible strength from her fellow members and friends.

Carol’s kindness and empathy knew no bounds. She was a devoted aunt, friend and mentor to so many. Carol’s faith was deep and abiding and she took strength and comfort from angels and prayer. While Carol faced many struggles in her life, she faced them with faith, humility, humor and gratitude for each new day.

Carol is predeceased by her father Dr. Paul E Kirdahy and her oldest brother Paul T Kirdahy. She leaves behind her mother Joan Kirdahy, her son Ryan Curran (Ashley), grand-daughters Sophia and Juliana, and five siblings and spouses, Kevin (Pat) Kirdahy, Kathleen (Bob) Kay, James (Nora) Kirdahy, Thomas (Terrence McNally (deceased)) Kirdahy, Neil (Sue) Kirdahy, ten nieces and nephews and her dog Spunky.

Carol was a prayer warrior and lived by the credo, “If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it.”
