Bridget Glynn Bridie
June 23, 1930 - January 1, 2025
Bridie was born June 23, 1930 in Clough, County Galway, Ireland. Bridie was one of eight children born to Patrick and Delia Fahy. Bridie’s siblings all preceded her in death, sisters Mary, Margaret (Baby), Nonie, Bina and brothers Joe, Tommy and Frank. She was the last of the Fahy’s. Bridie left Ireland for New York City in April of 1958.
She settled in Bronx, New York working jobs serving tables. She married Jim, October 15, 1960 and Mary was born in 1962 and Cathy followed in 1965. Michael was born 1967 the same year Jim and Bridie moved to Lake Grove, New York. She was a happy Homemaker at 1 Katie Court for nearly 58 years. She kept an immaculate home for years. Her house was always clutter free and she sometimes would get mocked for throwing things in the garbage. To this day the Glynn ladies get lovingly mocked for cleaning up too quickly and get referred to as Bridie junior (this is a huge compliment). She worked jobs cleaning houses for extra money but mostly just ran the household. She used to bake cakes and cupcakes daily and always had dinner ready at 5pm just in time for Jim’s arrival home from work at Con Edison.
Bridie also taught religious education for Mary, Cathy and Michael and many of the other children of the White Walls in the 1970s. Class was held in the Den at Katie Court and always ended with cupcakes for the whole class. The children of the White Walls all know their prayers thanks to Bridie. She was also very skilled with the sewing machine and made many outfits for all.
Bridie was friends with all of the original White Wall/Katie Court families and also to the second generation having lived at 1 Katie Court for 58 years.
Bridie was one of the original members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and enjoyed many hours of happiness at the Hall in Selden dancing the night away with Jim. She loved her Irish music and could often be heard singing out loud any time of the day.
Bridie did not get her drivers license until early 1980s. She used to rely on Mary, Cathy and Michael to run her errands in Lake Grove like getting milk at the 7-11 or an Air Mail stamp from the post office so she could send a letter to her siblings who all remained in Ireland. Jim and Bridie loved their summer vacations back “home” to Ireland. There were some legendary trips over the years.
Once her children were grown she took on her best role as Nanny to her eight Grandchildren, Joseph (Alyssa), Tim (Kelly), Brendan, Declan, Conor, Tara, Kieran (Annie) and Aidan. There are many fond memories of time spent at Katie Court for the next generation most notably “Favorite Chicken Fridays”, and “Nanny’s Backyard Baseball” at Katie Court. She was even lucky enough to see the birth of four Great Grand Children, Viviana, Myla, Madison and Ryan.
Bridie was heartbroken by the loss of her beloved Jim in 2023. Bridie will be missed dearly by all, but most importantly she is now reunited with Jim for eternity.
