Bernadette C. Gayer

It is with great sadness that the family of Bernadette Gayer announces her passing on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at the age of 76 years. Bernadette was born in Limerick, Ireland, the youngest daughter of Edward and Anne Long who emigrated to the United States with their family when Bernadette was 10 years old. Before spending many happy years raising her family in Port Jefferson Station, she lived and worked in the Bronx, NY, where she met her husband of 53 years, Edmond, a New York City fireman. After raising her sons, Bernadette took great pride and joy in serving meals to the children of the Comsewogue School District. Bernadette will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Edmond, and her four sons, Edward (Maura), Thomas (Susan), Alexander (Kellyann), and Brendan (Carly). Bernadette was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren Ryan, Sarah, Emily, Riley, Noelle, Anna, Mairead, Clare, Maeve and Lillian whom she brought great joy to with her singing and contagious laughter. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas and sisters Sheila, Peggy, and Phyllis and survived by brother Alexander, twin brother Edward and sisters Marie, Helen, and Elizabeth. There will be a private burial service and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date to be announced.
