Barbara Elizabeth Walther

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Barbara Walther (nee Walsh, aka “Aunt B”) who passed away on January 8th, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Barbara was a remarkable individual whose presence touched the lives of many.

Barbara was the middle child of seven kids. Born in Patchogue on March 28th, 1939. She was brought up in Flushing and then Bayport where she graduated High School in 1957.

Barbara loved her community and helping people. She was known for being a lifetime member of the Holbrook Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, past Secretary and was the 2001-2002 “Lady of the Year”.

She used to decorate the park on Grundy and Terry Blvd (where the old Civic Hall used to be) for the holidays. She was a Chemo Angel for many years. She helped found and taught preschool at Good Shepherd Church, and she belonged to the Lions club.

Christmas was her favorite holiday. At the assisted living facility she resided in, she would wear her ugly Xmas sweater in the middle of the summer to celebrate the Joy of the Holidays.

Barbara will be remembered for her love of family, compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her community. She had a remarkable ability to bring people together and create a sense of unity.

The memory of Barbara will forever live in the hearts of her surviving husband Robert and two children Debbie and Steven, her brother Joseph and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. We take comfort in the knowledge that she rests in eternal peace. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us through the days to come.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on:
