Anna Okula Perry of East Moriches, died at home on January 7, 2018. She was 88 years old.
She was born December 27, 1929 to Marianna (nee Szczygiel) and Alex Okula in Baiting Hollow and later graduated from Riverhead High School. She married Walter Perry.
She worked in Hills grocery store in Riverhead for many years. Both she and her husband grew up on family farms and enjoyed working together in their vegetable garden and cooking, canning, and freezing the bounty. In her later years she got much joy from the companionship of her dog. Anna was a devout Catholic and first-generation American who was very proud of her Polish heritage. In recent years she received the kind help of her nephew, Tom Fabb and his family, as well as members of the Blasko family, who were her childhood neighbors and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and brothers Adolf, Henry, Stephen, and Antone (Tony). She is survived by a brother Tadeusz (Theodore) Okula, formally of Riverhead, residing in Titusville, Florida. While she said she “was not blessed with children of her own”, she is also survived by nieces and nephews, many of whom moved away from the area and didn’t see her often, but remember her love of telling jokes, laughing and showing her beautiful smile.
A gathering in her memory will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Moloney Sinnickson Funeral Home, 203 Main Street, Center Moriches, with burial to follow immediately at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
