Angelina Formisano

Angelina Formisano, of Islandia, NY, passed away on March 11, 2020, at the age of 95 years. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Gruner (Paul), her son Richard Formisano (Jan), granddaughters Michele Rand (Michael), Melissa Corcione (John), Nicole Holmer (Chris), Jamie Formisano (Eric), Christine Powell (Curtis), and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by Dominick Formisano, her husband of 65 years.

Angie was an April Fool baby, born in Brooklyn, NY on April 1, 1924 to Anna and Giovanni Juliani. She was one of four children, including brothers Floriano (John), Gaetano (Tommy) and sister, Gertrude (Gertie). She was a woman of many talents; working in the textile industry as a seamstress in the Garment District as a young woman, and in the schools as a cook and AV aide when her children were in school. Her pride in her Italian heritage showed in her delicious cooking, in her love of music and dancing, her absolute devotion to family and in her cry of “Saluti!” as she raised a glass of good Chianti to toast all seated at the table.

Angie was a devoted wife, raising her two children and supporting her husband as he made a living as a butcher. She joined him in leadership roles in the Masons/Eastern Star philanthropic organizations. Angie and her husband Dominick loved to travel and, accompanied by dear friends and family, enjoyed many cruises. Visiting their son provided unique opportunities to explore the United States. Nonna or Nanny, as she was known by the grandkids and great grandkids, loved fiercely and fully. Her last 9 years were spent with her friends at The Arbors Assisted Living where she loved bingo, cards and the cooking club. She will be sorely missed by many.
