Allan Robert Ahrens, Sr. passed away at the age of 73 in Smithtown, New York, on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at his home surround by his family after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Handlin) Ahrens, who he married on July 18, 1968, his daughter Tricia (Ahrens) Belger and her husband Gregory Belger, his daughter Stacie Ahrens-Mininberg and her husband Steve Mininberg, and his son, Brian Ahrens. He was predeceased by his son Allan R. Ahrens, Jr.
Al was born in Queens, New York, to Edward Ahrens and Ernestine (Pyne) Ahrens. He lived his life on Long Island. He served at the Korean DMZ during the Vietnam war, entered the Army National Guard for several years, and retired from the New York Air National Guard after many years of service. He worked as a Supervisor for New York State before retiring.
Al was a devoted father and husband. He loved all things western and fancied himself a Long Island cowboy. He was loved by all who met him and was fondly referred to as “Uncle Al the kiddie’s pal”. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
